Cement Punning & Screeding Calculator Nepal
Estimate cement bags and sand for cement punning and floor screeding from area, thickness, and mix ratio. Built for Nepal house finishing and tiling prep.
How this works
wet volume = area × thickness × (1 + wastage%) dry volume = wet × 1.27 cement / sand split by mix ratio (e.g. 1:4) cement bags = ceil(cement m³ / 0.0347)
Worked example
A 24 m² room with 40 mm screed (1:4) and 3 mm punning (1:2) plus 5% wastage produces separate cement/sand lines for each coat and a combined bag count for ordering.
FAQ
What is cement punning in construction?
Punning is a thin cement-sand finish coat (usually 2–3 mm) applied over plaster or screed to create a smooth, dense surface before paint or flooring. In Nepal it is often called cement punning and uses a rich mix such as 1:1 or 1:2.
How is screeding different from punning?
Screeding is a thicker levelling layer on floors (often 25–50 mm) that corrects levels and receives tiles or other finishes. Punning is much thinner and is mainly a surface finish. This calculator estimates both so you can order cement and sand for either or both works.
Which mix ratio should I use?
For punning, 1:1 or 1:2 (cement:sand) is common. For floor screed, 1:3 to 1:5 is typical depending on traffic and specification. Always follow the project BOQ or engineer’s note when available.
Why is cement rounded up to whole bags?
Cement is sold in 50 kg bags. Fractional bags are impractical on site and open bags spoil quickly, so the calculator rounds cement up for procurement.
Does this include wastage?
Yes. Enter a wastage allowance (default 5%) to cover handling, uneven base, and site losses. Increase it for very uneven floors or first-time crews.
