Supply budget

Doors 11.34 m² · windows 11.52 m² · door frames 36.0 m · window frames 38.4 m.

How this works

opening area = count × (W/1000) × (H/1000)
frame lineal = count × 2 × (W + H) / 1000
glass area = openings × glass fraction × (1 + waste%)
budget = doors × door rate + windows × window rate

Worked example

6 solid doors 900×2100 mm and 8 windows 1200×1200 mm fully glazed:

  • Door area ≈ 11.3 m²; window area ≈ 11.5 m²
  • Glass ordered ≈ window area × 1.05 with 5% waste

FAQ

How do I estimate doors and windows for a house in Nepal?

Count each door and window on the drawings or walk the floors, note width × height for typical sizes, and multiply. This calculator turns those counts into total opening area, frame lineal metres, glazed area, and a budget from unit rates. Use average sizes for a first pass, then refine with the exact schedule from the architect.

What are common door and window sizes in Nepal homes?

Main doors are often about 900–1000 mm wide by 2100 mm high; internal doors 800–900 × 2100 mm. Windows vary widely — 900×1200, 1200×1200, and 1500×1200 mm are common residential modules, but always follow the approved drawing and aluminium/UPVC shop drawings. Fire and exit doors may have code minimum widths.

What is frame lineal metre used for?

Frame lineal is the perimeter of each opening times the count. Joinery workshops and aluminium fabricators use it to estimate frame profiles, while glass shops use glazed area. Solid doors with zero glass fraction contribute to openings and frames but not glass area.

Should unit rates include installation?

Be consistent. Many Nepal quotes are supply-only per door or window; installation, hardware, sealing, and painting may be extra. Enter the rate type you are comparing (supply vs installed) and keep labour in a separate line if needed.

How much glass waste should I allow?

For standard rectangular panes, 5% is a common planning allowance. Raise it for many small lights, patterned cuts, or toughened glass with long lead times. Confirm cut lists with the fabricator before ordering full sheets.
