RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete)
Also known as: reinforced concrete, RCC framed structure
RCC is concrete strengthened with steel reinforcement bars so the member can resist both compression and tension.
Plain concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension. Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) embeds steel bars (rebar) in the concrete so the steel carries tensile forces while the concrete carries compression — making it suitable for beams, columns, slabs, footings, and staircases.
An RCC-framed structure is the most common construction system for permanent houses in Nepal. Its members are designed to IS 456, which governs concrete grades, cover, reinforcement detailing, and development lengths.
Getting the concrete grade, steel quantity, and detailing right is critical for safety, especially in an earthquake-prone region.
